Where do bed bugs in NJ come from ?, It's a legitimate question with many different answers. The most likely reasons there are bed bugs in New Jersey is probably that they originally came from somewhere else. This does not mean that bed bugs don't live in New Jersey or have not been here for a while, it just means that they originally were not from New Jersey, or any state in the U.S.A. for that matter. Bed Bugs originally came from Asia, Africa & Europe.
Bed Bugs Migration:
Bed bugs do not migrate like termites or carpenter bee's. Bed bugs have no wings and are basically hitchhikers who simply are bumming a ride on peoples clothes, furniture luggage, bed sheets and mattresses.
Most Common NJ Bed Bugs:
Cimex Lectularius is the official name of the most common bed bug you might come across in the state of New Jersey. This bed bug is brown in color, small, flat and has the ability to slither it's way in and out of areas humans can't get to.
Bed Bugs Feed On Humans:
Bed bugs feed on the blood of humans and sometimes animals as well. The most common time for feeding is at night when humans are asleep. Bed bugs are not known for passing blood related diseases from one human to another.
Types Of Bed Bug Bites:
If you are bitten by a bed bug you might notice a swollen area that somewhat itches. Try not to scratch your bite because scratching a bed bug bite sometimes leads to infection.
Tropical Bed Bugs:
Some other types of bed bugs are Cimex Hemipterus who primarily feed on poultry and bats, but have been known to feed on humans as well. This bed bug is found mostly in tropical weather climates.
Do Bed Bugs Transfer Disease?
Bed bugs do not transmit disease from one victim to another. A bed bug control company might tell you that the biological make up of a bed bug prevents the transfer of disease from one human to another through their bites.
Are Bed Bugs NJ Common ?
Bed bugs are common in New Jersey but will mostly be found in the more populated towns and counties in NJ. Monmouth County Has a high bed bug report history mainly because it is the most populated county in New Jersey. The higher the population the more chances of bed bugs being transported in and out of a specific area. Middlesex County, Mercer County, Somerset County & Union County New Jersey represent the most densely populated areas that would most likely harbor more bed bugs than other parts of New Jersey.

Bed Bug Behavior:
Bed bugs like to "camp out" near where thier victims or "hosts" sleep. When bed bugs bite humans they often inject a salvia type of secretion that stops human blood from colagulating and mimicks a type of anesthetic which leaves the host (human) unaware of the presence of a bed bug in their skin. Bed bugs feed about every five to ten days.
How Long Do Bed Bugs Live:
Bed bugs normally live up to 6 months in a normal life cycle. However if a bed bug can't find blood they will often times become dormant for about 18 months until they can feed on a human bodies blood supply.

Female Bed Bugs:
Up to 1,000 eggs are laid by a female bed bug during it's lifetime and often appears larger than the male due to the fact they are carrying eggs most of the time. A female bed bug has the same life expectancy as the males.

A bed bugs eggs can't be smashed or crushed to eliminate them properly. There are several eggs within a sack that may appear to be one egg and you may not get them all when trying to simply smash them. The best way to get rid of bed bugs is with the appropriate insecticide.
